How do I add my first collectible?

Tap the «+» button and pick how to add it: shoot a photo, choose one from your library, scan a barcode, paste a link, or type it in. Kabynyt AI pre-fills the form — you review and save.

Can I bring in a collection I already have?

Connect Discogs in Settings → Discogs and your records and wantlist pull straight in. Otherwise add items by photo, barcode, link, or name — and restore a Kabynyt backup from Settings → Data & Sync → Backup & Restore.

Does barcode scanning need internet?

Yes. The code goes to the barcode catalogs first, then to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, and to Google only if you turn on Google Web Search. Offline you keep the digits, not the title or the cover. Opening the scanner needs Kabynyt AI; typing a code in by hand is always free.

Does AI photo identification need internet?

Yes. Apple’s Private Cloud Compute reads the photo, and Google reads it too if you turn on Google Web Search. The first 5 smart adds are free, then Kabynyt AI is $0.99/month for unlimited use.

How do I back up my collection?

iCloud sync is automatic when iCloud is enabled — every device signed into the same Apple Account stays in sync through your private CloudKit container. Settings → Data & Sync → Backup & Restore also exports a JSON snapshot you can save anywhere.

Is Kabynyt free?

The app is free to download. All 56 categories, unlimited manual entry, photos, notes, export, and iCloud sync are free forever. Kabynyt AI gives you 5 free smart adds, then it’s $0.99 a month for unlimited use. Cancel anytime.

Can I search for digital media without a barcode?

Yes — tap Search by name and type a title. Kabynyt routes the search to the right catalog by category: iTunes for movies, TV, magazines, and audiobooks; Discogs and MusicBrainz for vinyl and music; Open Library for books and comics; RAWG then Wikipedia for video games and the long tail. If every catalog misses, Kabynyt AI asks Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for a best guess.

Where do covers and metadata come from?

iTunes for movies, TV, magazines, and audiobooks; Open Library for books; MusicBrainz and Cover Art Archive for music; Discogs for vinyl; RAWG for games; blu-ray.com for discs; Wikipedia for the rest. Only the title, identifier, or barcode is sent — never your collection.

How do filters and sorting work?

Filter a collection by loaned, opened, retired, or photos; filter the library by type. Sort by date added, date modified, title, creator, year, value, or rating.

What's the difference between tags and subcategories?

A category is one of 56 types Kabynyt is built for (Books, Wine, LEGO, …). A subcategory is a smaller group you make inside a category (“Pokémon” inside Trading Cards). A tag is any label you want, free-form, used across categories.

How do wishlist and loans work?

Mark any item as wishlist instead of owned to track what you want. Lend something? Tap Loaned and log who has it — the Loaned filter in that collection shows everything that’s out.

I deleted something by accident

Settings → Data & Sync → Recently Deleted. Items wait 30 days before they’re purged. Swipe an item, tap Restore, and it goes back to its collection.

How does Discogs sync work?

Settings → Discogs → paste a personal access token. Your records and wantlist then sync both ways, or one way if you choose. The token stays in your device’s Keychain, you can see each record’s market value, and disconnecting leaves your Kabynyt collection untouched.

Can I add items from a web page?

Yes. In Safari or any app, tap Share and choose Kabynyt — Kabynyt AI reads the page and imports the item, pulling the title, details, and a cover image from it. Review and edit everything before you save.

Shoot a photo for Kabynyt AI, scan a barcode, type a title and let Kabynyt search the right catalog, or hand-enter what you know.

Review the pre-fill

Title, category, cover, and year come back filled in — tweak anything before you save.

Browse, sort, and filter

Open any category, mix filters and sorts, or jump to the home tab for For You Today and Recently Added.

Search beats typing

“Pokémon” inside Trading Cards, “Hot Wheels” inside Toys — sub-buckets keep large categories navigable.

Let the scanner do the typing

The code on the back fills in the whole form — title, maker, year, and cover art — faster than typing a title.

Enable iCloud early

Sign in to iCloud before you add hundreds of items, so the first sync is small and fast.

Use wishlist for hunts

Mark items as wishlist while browsing — they stay out of your owned counts and out of the daily picks until you get them.

Manage it in the App Store under your Apple Account. To restore, open Kabynyt Settings → Kabynyt AI, tap the Kabynyt AI row, then Restore Purchases.

Troubleshooting

iCloud sync isn't working
Make sure you’re signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on every device, and that iCloud is on for Kabynyt. Settings → Data & Sync shows the current sync status.
Kabynyt AI says “limit reached”
You’ve used the 5 free smart adds. Open Settings → Kabynyt AI to subscribe for $0.99/month, or keep adding items by hand for free.
Photo identification picked the wrong item
Re-shoot in better light against a contrasting background — AI vision works best on clean shots. You can also edit the pre-filled form before tapping save, or fall back to barcode scan or title search.
Barcode scan returned the wrong title
Barcode databases sometimes ship the same UPC across re-issues. Tap the title to edit it, or use Search by name to find the right edition.
Cover art didn't load
Open the item and tap its cover to search the catalogs again, or run Identify on a photo of it.
Subscription not recognized
Settings → Kabynyt AI, tap the Kabynyt AI row, then Restore Purchases. Make sure you’re signed in with the Apple Account you subscribed with.
I deleted an item; how do I get it back?
Settings → Data & Sync → Recently Deleted. Items wait 30 days before they’re purged. Swipe an item and tap Restore.
